Battlebots: Design Challenge
The students had a design challenge to create a Battlebot to pop someone else's balloon. They were all given the same materials to put over their Sphero's. The designs were all different with each student having a different idea of whether they were going to be offensive or defensive. Let the games begin.

Facing Frustrations
Our students faced their frustrations and challenges during our Project Lead the Way coding class. For many of them it was the first time that they really struggled. They had to learn how to deal and overcome the challenges that faced them.

Supporting Susy
Susy had missed a lot of school because she was in the hospital. Her team of teachers figured out a way for her to not fall behind and be an active participant in class. With the help of another student, Susy was Facetimed into class while she was at home recovering. All of this was made possible because the iPad kept her connected to her school and classmates. |
Sphero Geometry
Ms. Olson uses Sphero's in her geometry class to give her students the hands on experience to learn how angles work. She is incorporating the coding of the Sphero's to understand polygons and their corresponding angles. Students learned by doing and making mistakes. It is what they do with the knowledge from the mistake that is the key. |

Invention Convention
Aiden found that when he is late to school that it takes too much time to go down to the office and sign in. He feels that there is a better way so that he can get to class sooner and not miss anymore class time. Aiden has designed an app that will let him sign in from anywhere in the building. This will let him get to class sooner and the teacher and office will have a record of his tardy. |

Personalize Learning in PE
Mr. Metovic and Mrs. Hendricks PE class and they shared with us how they are leveraging the iPads and Polar technology to personalize learning for their students. This is a great example on how mobile technology can help personalize a learning experience for everyone. Again, what makes this story so important is that it's a snapshot into a classroom that has been redesigned because of the Power of a connected mobile measuring tool. These two physical education teachers have discovered how to turn this reporting process into a fundamental learning tool for every student. |
Staying Organized
Students figure things out on their own. They will learn how to do something that benefits or makes their life easier. Meg shows us how she keeps organized using a strategy of color coding. She is taking charge of her own learning. Meg is leveraging the iPad to help her be successful in and out of school. |

What does learning look like?
It’s no longer that the teacher has all the answers. With our 1:1 tablets learning can and does take place anywhere. Ms. Fefer’s math class created their own resources to help each other learn new math concepts. Student’s took it upon themselves to create materials that will teach others in any format that they wanted, some created movies, posters, comics and songs. This assignment took the learning from the classroom to their homes. They will be able to access these resources whenever they need them. They are making connections to their peers and taking ownership in their own learning. I was impressed by how creative many of these students were. They used their own learning styles to create materials for others. Not every student learns the same way so it is great to have varied examples of the same concept. |
Connecting Coding
Students need to understand not only how to code, but why. The most important part about coding is the ability to identify a problem, solve it, and tell the story. This is a wonderful example on how that initial process looks like. It was wonderful to listen to the kids make the connections between a science class and a social studies class during this process. |
